Wärtsilä NextDF Technology Delivers Ultra-Low Methane Emissions
Technology group Wärtsilä has introduced its innovative NextDF feature for the Wärtsilä 25DF dual-fuel engine. While operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG), the NextDF feature reduces methane emissions to less than two percent of fuel use across all load points, achieving as low as 1.1 per cent in a wide load range. The nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are lower than on the standard Wärtsilä 25DF engine which already has low emission levels below IMO Tier III. LNG is considered an important transition marine fuel, bridging the gap between conventional diesel fuels and future carbon-neutral or carbon-free alternatives. This is the second Wärtsilä dual-fuel engine to be made available with NextDF technology. In 2023, Wärtsilä introduced the new technology for its Wärtsilä 31DF engine.

Cortland’s AeroLock Synthetic Connector is a patent-pending design that incorporates high-performance HMPE with a unique alloy pin, delivering a breaking strength greater than four hundred metric tons. It’s lighter than a steel shackle and easier to open and close for quick re-positioning and increased efficiency. Taking the guesswork out of inspecting knotted soft shackles which can fail unpredictably, Aerolock is designed to replace traditional synthetic and steel shackles, and has been field-tested in actual rope-on-rope operations.
Find out moreSchottel to Supply Components to 27 USCG Waterways Commerce Cutters
Schottel has been selected by Birdon America, Inc. to supply components to 27 vessels of the U.S. Coast Guard Waterways Commerce Cutter (WCC) Program. For this program, U.S. Coast Guard prime contractor Birdon America is designing the cutters and is expected to construct sixteen River Buoy Tenders (WLR) and eleven Inland Construction Tenders (WLIC). The cutters will be built at Birdon’s recently acquired Bayou La Batre shipyard in Alabama. Each SRP features an input power of 597 kilowatts (800 horsepower) and a propeller diameter of 1.3 meters. The thrusters are fitted with SCHOTTEL’s highly efficient SDC40 nozzle, which combines compact design and high propulsion efficiency. Hydrodynamically optimized protective grids on the nozzles will increase the safety of the propellers in case of collisions with debris. Schottel DuroVario-S slipping clutches will allow for smooth startups and overall improved handling of the thrusters for precise maneuvering and will reduce the environmental impact during berthing operations. Enabling the WCCs to operate in both deep and shallow waters, the SRPs will allow the vessel to achieve a free-running speed of 11 knots or more.
ESAB’s Rustler EM 280 PRO Integrated MIG Welder
ESAB has unveiled the Rustler EM 280 PRO, its next generation inverter-based MIG welder to improve productivity, boost quality and simplify training in industrial fabrication applications. Rustler EM 280 PRO has a maximum welding output of 280 amps and rated output of 200 amps at 60% duty cycle. It connects to 208V/230V single-phase primary power ± 15% and features Power Factor Correction to lower primary power draw. The Rustler can provide its full output range on a 30A breaker, where older-generation technology required 50A service. It offers an energy efficiency of 82% to lower utility bills. The Rustler will automatically detect when the optional Tweco Spool Gun is connected for welding aluminum.

Moteurs Baudouin, a provider of marine power solutions since 1918, has announced that its 6F21 engine has obtained the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Tier 3 Recreational Certification. This significant milestone reinforces Baudouin's dedication to producing more powerful, innovative, and environmentally sustainable solutions for marine commercial and recreational markets worldwide.
LOOKOUT adds Functionality to Marine Navigation System
LOOKOUT has added more features to its augmented reality system for total situational awareness. Building on its ability to detect hazards, day or night, with state-of-the-art computer vision, LOOKOUT has added three new features: AIS flags, navigational aid annotations and points-of-interest pins. The software upgrade is available for free as an over-the-air update. For AIS data, LOOKOUT integrates with all AIS receivers over the NMEA 2000 network to display vessel name and country of origin flags flying above the vessels. Mariners rely on this system, especially in low light or fog. LOOKOUT provides a count-down for time-to-closest approach based on closing speed for potential collision risks. Additionally, LOOKOUT now includes over 15,000 buoy and marker locations directly from NOAA, then shows directional arrows above these to help boaters avoid running aground.
Find out more50 Years of the Liebherr Mobile Harbor Crane
The LGM 1130 introduced in 1974 was Liebherr’s first mobile harbor crane, and the LHM has evolved significantly with innovative design features and technological advancements. Over the decades, Liebherr has continuously adapted to market demands, introducing innovative models such as the LHM 250 in 1996 and the LHM 550 in 2010. The all-electric LPS 420 E from 2019 and the new LHM series was introduced in 2022 reflect Liebherr’s commitment to sustainability and forward-looking technologies.
Half a century of innovation makes Liebherr an ideal choice across diverse regions and product configurations.
Furuno’s NavPilot 1000 Delivers Precision Navigation and Reliability
Furuno has introduced the NavPilot 1000, a Heading Control System (HCS) designed for larger vessels up to 100m, about 300 feet LOA. The NavPilot 1000 is type approved for high-speed craft and is the ideal Autopilot for both IMO and non-IMO installations. With its ability to connect to both analog and solenoid steering systems, the NavPilot 1000 is an ideal steering solution for commercial vessels and luxury yachts alike. Find out moreNew Compact Spreader Lights Deliver Safety
Having a well-lit deck makes running a boat at night safer, but too much glaring light can reduce night vision. That's what makes Shadow-Caster's new NMEA 2000-ready SCM Series of Spreader Lights ideal. They'll pump out 3,000 lumens of bright, crisp white light when needed, but can be dimmed through a multifunction display connected to a Shadow-NET control module or via a standard switch.
The SCM Series is offered in Bracket Mount and Flush Mount configurations. Both provide a 60° beam angle of 6200 Kelvin cool white light. Soft-start technology gradually increases brightness to the desired level, activated either by toggling the power source or selecting the lamp through a Shadow-Caster lighting controller. Delivering 3,000 lumens, a single SCM Spreader Light draws only 20W/1.5A with a 10–30V input.
